*Character Name: Deckerd (BP-110)
*Character Canon: Brave Police: J-Decker
*Age: 1 Year, though he has the maturity of an adult.
*Race: Super A.I. Robot
*Timeline/Pull Point: Post-episode 39.
*History: It is the 21st Century. While technology has sprung forth a new age of advancement for humanity, it has also sprung forth new crimes and criminals. Giant mecha robots piloted by insane scientists, mutations stomping about Tokyo Bay, alien lifeforms attempting to invade, biomonsters formed out of the madness of the most genius minds -- things that eventually became too much for the Japanese police to handle. So a project was put forth in Nanamagari City to fight these types of crimes: the Brave Police, which was to be led by the commissioner, Jozo Saejima, and constructed by engineer Shunsuke Toudoi. Beginning with the very first model, BP-110 Deckerd, was created. Approximately 17 feet tall and designed to look like a traditional Japanese policeman, Deckerd was meant to help defend the innocent, constructed for power and agility alike and to take orders.
Something unexpected happened, though. By pure chance, a young boy in the fourth grade accidentally fell down a chute and came upon Deckerd, accidentally activating him while he was still in construction. This boy, Yuuta Tomonaga, heard the first words from the large robotic: "I am Deckerd." No other words were known by Deckerd. Yuuta introduced himself, the first brand new words set into Deckerd's mind. "My name is Yuuta! Yuuta Tomonaga." Deckerd repeated these words back, "Yuuta. Tomonaga." These words would become the most important, top priority in his mechanical brain. Over the course of six months, Yuuta would secretly visit Deckerd every day, teaching him things about the outside world as Deckerd was physically developed by the engineering team, not knowing a boy was seeing their police robot. Deckerd, after spending so much time with Yuuta, would form a "heart" and became capable of free thought and emotion. He was more than just a robot. He had a personality. However, there came a time in which Deckerd was to be finally officially completely and put into the police, which meant he had to be reformatted. This also meant all his memories of Yuuta would be wiped clean. Deckerd, reluctantly, told Yuuta this, who took it terribly; the boy wept on his friend. Deckerd told him: "Yuuta. Be strong. Live your life with courage." Yuuta accepted this in tears.
Deckerd was then taken away, to be delivered to the precint. However, the police delivering him were attacked abruptly by Dr. Gauss who was piloting a giant mecha. Yuuta, seeing that the police and Deckerd alike were in trouble, ran out into the street and screamed for Deckerd to wake up. Hearing his friend in trouble, Deckerd woke and broke out of the van carrying him. He leapt out into the fray, revealing that he could transform into a patrol car; he also was capable of both saving Yuuta and defeating Dr. Gauss, arresting him. Watching and seeing the miracle that was Deckerd's self-awareness and exceeding all expectations, Saejima made a decision. He would incorporate Yuuta into the Brave Police as well, respecting and admiring the boy's special connection to Deckerd. Thus, Yuuta became the "Boss" of the Brave Police.
There was something else to learn about Deckerd. It turned out that the other aspect of Deckerd was that he could combine with a swat van, J-Roader, in order to become a larger, more powerful mecha named J-Decker. This should have been able to occur with Yuuta's verbal command, but Deckerd's resistance to his reformat corrupted the coding, which meant Yuuta had to learn how to make Deckerd transform into it manually. Despite all complications, Yuuta and Deckerd were able to use their friendship as a focus and allow Deckerd to transform into J-Decker. This was all well and good, but Saejima realized something else: since Deckerd was such a success, clearly they needed to extend out and create more BPs. Three more mechs were created as a result. However, they were not given personalities, due to the concerns from the board about how to control machines that could think for themselves. So, unfortunately, the three new mechs -- called the Build Team since they were composed of vehicles meant for construction work (a crane, power shovel, and dump truck) -- could only take direct orders and were no more than drones. Abruptly, an alien meteorite called Gaizonite crashed into a junkyard in the city; it had the ability to control all machines. The only one it could not control was the sentient Deckerd, thus proving the fact that having a personality was more important than overpowered drones, considering the fact that the Build Team fell under the Gaizonite's control. With Deckerd's human friends and himself, they were able to overcome the Gaizonite, capture it, and also convince the board to allow the Build Team to have their own personalities.
Basing their programming vaguely off of Deckerd's, the Build Team became self-aware as well; they were their own individuals and decided to name themselves. There was the tempermental kung fu master Power Joe, the clear-headed combat specialist McCrane, and the strict by-the-book wrestler Dumpson. The three of them also gained their own bonds and friendship amongst humans, as well as growing close to each other and Yuuta, all respecting him and calling him Boss. It was eventually revealed that the Build Team could combine into a giant mecha named Build Tiger. However, there was some sort of mental block on all three members, as they had a difficult time trying to combine. They found that they needed their own motivation in order to combine, which meant that they needed to think about the friends they had made, the people they wanted to protect. By this, they were able to combine into the powerful Build Tiger.
Over the course of more cases together, eventually the Brave Police had a new member join them: the ninja Shadowmaru. There was one complication, though. Shadowmaru's prototype, Kagerou, abruptly became rebellious and began to destroy machines that could speak. Shadowmaru demanded that he handle this and not the rest of the Brave Police. With reluctance, Deckerd and the others allowed it, and it appeared that the reason Kagerou became so destructive was that the precint decided to have him reformatted and relocated. The latter was not so concerning as the former, as it meant that Kagerou would forget everything he had ever done, all of which centered around Shadowmaru. If Kagerou's memories of him were wiped, then it would be as if he never lived at all. These were aspects that could be understood by the other members of the Brave Police. Thus, Kagerou was let go on the promise no one would follow him. Unfortunately, Kagerou was shortly kidnapped afterward by people who worked for Excellent Co., his Super A.I. unit stolen. Kagerou's body was then programmed to become destructive, which sadly Shadowmaru had to destroy. It was revealed that Kagerou's Super A.I. was reformatted and placed into a submarine. Shadowmaru was able to apprehend the one responsible, and the submarine sunk, effectively and finally killing Kagerou.
Later on after another few cases, another detective was constructed and joined the Build Team specifically: a young mech named Drill Boy who had a bit of an obessession for soccer. Young and immature, Drill Boy could be a little too blunt with his words. Fortunately, Yuuta and a new case were able to humble Drill Boy a little bit. Albeit Drill Boy was still quite young in personality, he grew a bit in turn and was able to combine with the rest of the Build Team to create Super Build Tiger, an even more powerful version of Build Tiger. As time and cases went on, with strangeness such as a mythical demon able to inspire greed in creatures and a giant panda attacking the city, there came another arrival to the Brave Police: a former Highway Patrol member named Gunmax, who rode a giant motorcycle and had quite the chip on his shoulder. Although his attitude did not mix well with the others at first, eventually he became part of the team officially. It was quickly revealed that Gunmax could transform into a weapon for J-Decker: the Max Cannon. Gunmax did not desire this to begin with, but after learning to trust and rely on Deckerd, the two became a powerful duo and friends.
Other cases would roll by, different people and different creatures attempting to threaten humanity, but the Brave Police would always be able to stop it in some way. There came a new enemy that they were not expecting, though: Victim O'Rand, a man who worked at Excellent Co. and had an unusual sense of hatred for the Brave Police. He wished for the destruction of J-Decker and the rest of the Brave Police. So, he designed his own machines with Super A.I. and self-awareness: a pair of robots named Chieftain. Unknown to Deckerd at the time, these two robots went off to attempt to locate J-Decker. All the while, Deckerd was attending a party -- a one year anniversary of his meeting with Yuuta, celebrating their powerful friendship. However, after both Shadowmaru and Gunmax failed to defeat the Chieftains and Drill Boy interrupted to party to tell them what was happening, Deckerd immediately set out to face this new foe. The Build Team became Super Build Tiger and he formed J-Decker. Gunmax, struggling against his injuries, formed the Max Cannon for J-Decker. Yet, despite their efforts, it was not enough; the Chieftains defeated all of them, and stabbed Deckerd. Fallen, defeated, and dying, Yuuta ran to Deckerd in tears, taking out his gift for Deckerd; a hard-worked painting of the two of them. Wild hardly amazing art, it came from the heart. Deckerd smiled and told Yuuta he knew about it, but was teasing him during the party, acting as if he didn't know. Eventually, Deckerd shut down.
It was at that moment everyone else was rescued by a new arrival and the final Brave Police member: Duke, also known as Knight, who was made in England and meant to join the Brave Police in Japan. He immediately formed his own combiner body: Duke Fire. With this form, he was able to take out one of the Chieftains, but the other escaped. While this happened, Victim broke into the precint and stole the Gaizonite. With Deckerd fallen, Duke and his creator, Regina Argine, announced that he would be taking Deckerd's place. No one took it well; the rest of the Brave Police voiced their opinions, and Yuuta screamed at Duke to leave. However, this would have to wait. While Deckerd's body was being transported, it was stolen by Victim and combined into the leftovers of J-Decker, its body controlled by Gaizonite. With J-Decker at his disposal, Victim had it attack one of the prisons out in the ocean. This forced the Brave Police to arrive at the prison, and found themselves facing J-Decker. Yuuta, who had refused to accept Duke before, understood he needed his help and had him form Duke Fire to fight J-Decker and save the prisoners. J-Decker escaped unfortunately, but the prison was saved.
Later, the Brave Police were commanded to protect the transport of some unknown cargo. When J-Decker and Chieftain attacked and Gunmax shot the cargo out of J-Decker's hands, it was revealed that Deckerd had a new body prepared. Yuuta, realizing their chance, ordered the Brave Police to destroy the Gaizonite and rescue Deckerd's Super A.I. chip from J-Decker. Overcome with emotion, the Brave Police were determined -- and succeeded for the most part. J-Decker was defeated, and Deckerd's new body was saved. The Gaizonite, however, escaped with Chieftain's head and processor. Still, this meant that Deckerd could be restored.
Victory would have to wait, though, as it was found with Deckerd's revival, he had complete amnesia. Although he still had emotion, he could not remember anything about his bonds with any of his friends, including Yuuta. Determined to make Deckerd remember, Yuuta led him around to different locations, but nothing could jog Deckerd's memory. It came to the point where Deckerd begged Yuuta to stop this, as it was clearly hurting Yuuta to suffer through this. Yuuta ran away, upset that Deckerd was giving up. It was then that Deckerd decided to have his memories completely deleted and to start from nearly scratch. Regina agreed, deciding she would make the perfect policeman out of Deckerd, as she felt she failed with Duke. Meanwhile, rather abruptly, a giant mechanical monster attacked the city -- designed and made by Victim in order to study the combat of the Brave Police. Duke and the others battled on valiantly while Regina attempted to wipe out Deckerd's memories. Yet, somehow, the subconscious of Deckerd was able to protect its core memories, preventing any deletion, a behavior that the engineers commented was very human. Regina then decided that she had to completely replace his Super A.I. chip.
In need of assistance, Duke called for Yuuta to give the combination command so they could become Duke Fire and Super Build Tiger. Deciding that they needed his help, Yuuta set out to find them. At the same time, Yuuta's older sisters tried to do their part to inspire Deckerd's memory before his chip was replaced; they sent Yuuta's painting down the chute, and it floated out to the floor. Before Deckerd was shut down for the chip exchange, he saw the painting, recognizing. Then he was shut down. Regina removed his chip, and in his hand, it sparked, surprising her.
When Yuuta arrived at the scene to try to cheer the Brave Police on, they scolded him, wondering why he was there without Deckerd. Yuuta said that Deckerd was wiping his memories, that it was his choice, but they pressed on, telling him to fight for Deckerd, to not give up. All of them, including Duke Fire, pleaded for Yuuta to try again. Inspired by his friends, Yuuta agreed to go back. But it was too late; Deckerd arrived on scene with his J-Roader. Resigning to the fact that it was too late, Yuuta at first was crestfallen -- until Deckerd revealed that it was indeed him, that his memories were back. At Deckerd's request, Yuuta had him combine into J-Decker, who joined the others in defeating the mechanical monster. Even when it was destroyed, Victim felt he had the data he needed to destroy the Brave Police.
With Deckerd returned in full to the Brave Police, he gratefully accepted Duke as part of the team. It was soon revealed that J-Decker could combine with Duke Fire to form Fire J-Decker. The problem being that the data in order to do so was damaged in Deckerd considering all that had happened to him. To combine with Duke Fire left them with a near-zero chance of both of them surviving. One of them would be destroyed in the process. This problem would need to be later considered, though, as Victim attacked the city again with new and improved Chieftains. These pair of Chieftains were programmed, apparently, to be completely evil by Victim's standards. The Chiefains then were commanded to combine, which would demand the destruction of one of them; one of the Chieftains were killed by the other so that they could combine into a giant Chieftain. It was at this point that both J-Decker and Duke Fire requested that Yuuta order the command to combine into Fire J-Decker. Yuuta accepted; to Yuuta and Regina's relief, they were able to combine successfully with no one being destroyed in the process. Fire J-Decker then destroyed Chieftain and arrested Victim.
Shortly thereafter, Regina left for England. Things, more or less, returned to normal as the Brave Police continued to work on cases. The most recent case having been a series of car thieves, which fortunately Deckerd, Duke, and Gunmax were able to thwart and arrest the criminals responsible.
*Personality: Being the very first truly "aware" robot on earth, Deckerd was taught emotion by a 9 year old boy named Yuuta, and as such, he takes a lot of his personality from Yuuta. He was taught all the standard emotions, but an emphasis on courage. As such, he really has an attachment to Yuuta. I would go as far as to call them "platonic soul-mates". They are as close as friends could be. Yuuta is often the only one that Deckerd feels safe in confiding in. The child is his charge, his creator, brother, his best friend and his own god all rolled into one. He only became aware due to realizing and being able to define the feeling of loneliness and grief he felt when Yuuta would leave his side.Yuuta is the be all and end all to Deckerd's existence. There's really no describing just how important he is to Deckerd other than that as all other A.I. in the Brave Police universe is a copy of his own, no sentient robot in the entire series can bring himself to harm Yuuta. The bond is simply that powerful, and in the end, is also responsible for their own evolution to fully functioning, living beings. That's a lot of love.
He really lives up to his title as "Brave Detective". Deckerd is your typical leader-type with a twist. He's level-headed and tries to handle situations fairly. He tries not to let his own wants and needs overshadow others, however he is far from perfect. On many occasions, Deckerd is shown to make mistakes, at one point he becomes jilted over Yuuta ignoring him and snapping at him and nearly gets himself killed as a result. While he is very self-sacrificing, he is also very "human" for lack of a better word. He always tries to do the right thing but is not always successful. He doesn't always know what's best. He knows his shortcomings, however and is always learning from his mistakes and more over, putting faith in his friends to make up for whatever he lacks. He rarely allows himself to lose hope, but when he does, all he really needs is a helping hand of someone he cares for.
While he is the leader, and he can handle himself in rough situations, when his friends are removed, he becomes bereft. In one particular example, when the Brave Police is "disbanded", he loses his way and actually gives up on living, resigning himself to run out of fuel, alone in the place where he was born. Shadowmaru finds him however, and brings him back to the embrace of his friends. Being as most of the show is based around the power of friendship, it's also nearly as pivotal to his personality as Yuuta is. Don't mess with his friends.
Amongst other things, he's extremely polite and formal, a little awkward at times. He's what you might describe as a boyscout. By-the-book for the most part. The only people who really seem to sway him are Yuuta and (as shown) Gunmax who helps him loosen up a little. He has a decent enough sense of humor and understands the whole range of emotions as taught by a 9 year old. (As such, some things are still a little foreign to him).
Over all, your your leader-type with a taste of the good old everyman, and a dash of awkward in there.
*Powers/Abilities: Change: Deckerd can shift between robot-mode and a standard police patrol-car, earning him the nickname "Patokichi" (An affectionate version of "Patokaa", Japanese for "Patrol Car").
J-Decker: Deckerd can combine with his support vehicle, J-Roader, when given a command by Yuuta to "Brave Up". It's essentially your standard combiner logic, the vehicle splits apart and becomes armor, essentially an outer plating making him larger and more formidable. In this form, he can also use Gunmax's "Max Cannon" mode.
Short Range Synthetic Communication: Deckerd can communicate with the other Brave Police members, mentally at short range. No more than a few meters.
*Inventory: J-Roader, one robot-sized revolver, Brave Police badge.
*Starting Polarity: Vector Prime

[Well someone sounds distressed. He's trying to keep the guise of calmness, but he's not doing such a great job.]
Someone- please tell me where I am? How exactly did I arrive here?
I'm looking for someone. A young boy, about 9 years old. His name is Tomonaga Yuuta. Please, if anyone has seen him, tell me. It's a matter of urgency.
Additionally, if any members of the Brave Police are present, please respond.
I need to-
[He pauses, uncertain.]
I need to figure out what exactly is going on here.
*Third Person Sample:
Nothing here looks right, but that's not the first concern on his A.I. unit. The first thing he notices is the absence of his very best friend, Yuuta. One moment he was resting in the garage, the boy curled up in his passenger seat, pillow and blanket, sleeping peacefully, and the next... he's here. No Yuuta in sight.
No house, no city... it's an alien place, unlike anything he could have imagined. It's like something out of one of Drill Boy's silly Sci-Fi films, but this is reality, he finds, as the rocks crunch unkindly under his feet. And he's at a loss, where does he even start? Nothing for as far as he can see. He tries for his badge, attempting to radio for help. Nothing but harsh static answers him, and he snaps it closed, tucking it away in building frustration. Okay, be calm. Think.
Just think.
He needs to find out where he is, so he's just got to... pick a direction and go.
"Damn... change!" He snaps down into his patrol car mode and drives, hoping he'll eventually be greeted by a place. Or at least a clue. Even as the landscape stretches out in all directions. He heads straight and just hopes. Sometimes that's all they have is hope, which has been enough to get them through in the past. He's got to find out what happened to Yuuta. And for that...
Hope doesn't comfort him. Worry still clouds his mind when it comes to the child. He tries not to think of him here, lost, alone, crying with no one to comfort him. It makes something inside of the mech twist, sickeningly. He can't stand to think of it.

*First Person Sample: [Audio]
